NEW LOOK SLATED FOR

BLUE HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD

STREETSCAPING PROJECT UNVEILED TODAY

--NEWS RELEASE---

(June 4. 2007)---Mayor Eddie A. Perez thanks community and business leaders for working with the City of Hartford to devise a streetscape plan that makes Blue Hills Avenue brighter and more vibrant for residents and visitors alike.

John Allen and the Reverend Linda Hamlet, of the Blue Hills Merchant Association, led the neighborhood news conference. Renderings were unveiled today at the Blue Hills Branch of the Hartford Public Library and then the rain tapered-off enough for a photo opportunity. The almost $2 million project goes from Booth Bay Street to the Bloomfield Town Line. It begins this month and will be finished by the end of the year. It is being completely funded by City issued bonds. Highlights include more lighting, more parking spaces and easier travel for drivers and pedestrians.

Mayor Perez says, “New lights, new sidewalks, new curbs, and new trees--- that’s how this neighborhood will brighter, more accessible to drivers and pedestrians, and more attractive to everyone. This is a great way to help residents and commuters get to work, shop, and enjoy the neighborhood!”
