CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE IN HARTFORD

MAYOR PEREZ’S PUBLIC EVENTS CALENDAR FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 14th
9:00 a.m.--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez will help the community celebrate the official unveiling of the Northeast NRZ Streetscape and Banner Project. The ribbon cutting and flag raising ceremony highlights the welcoming gateway at the Hartford/Windsor line. The $800,000 investment includes a new streetscape, improved sidewalks, new banners, and new bus shelters. The event takes place at the Rajun Cajun restaurant, 2790 Main Street in the City’s Northeast neighborhood.
10:30 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will congratulate the winners of the second annual Spring Grove Cemetery Essay Contest. The Mayor will emphasize the importance of scholarships and thank Spring Grove Cemetery for providing educational opportunities to Hartford students. A $500 and a $300 scholarship will be awarded. Cynthia Avezzi, a teacher at Greater Hartford Classical Magnet School, will also be recognized for her inspirational support of her students. Danielle Myers, last year’s inaugural winner, will also share a few words on what winning this scholarship has meant to her. The awards ceremony will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery, 2035 Main Street that borders the Northeast/Clay Arsenal neighborhood.
12:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will present a proclamation and participate in the “hole in one” ceremony as part of the “Travelers Countdown to a Championship.” The event will help kick-off the first ever Travelers Championship, which starts on Monday, June 18th. Announcements about the weeklong event will take place during this special ceremony at Riverfront Plaza, at Columbus Boulevard and the Connecticut River, in
Downtown Hartford.
5:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will congratulate the 1,000 students who had perfect attendance this school year. The Mayor will distribute medallions to the youngsters, help hand out scholarships for outstanding student achievement and recognize parents for going the extra mile for Hartford youth. The top prize is the choice between a new car or $10,000 from Tony March Automotive in Hartford. Another prize is from Hartford attorney Jeffrey Dressler’s Mega Education program: a $5,000 U. S. Savings Bond. All the excitement will take place at Riverfront Plaza in Downtown Hartford.
7:30 p.m.--- Mayor Perez and First Lady Maria Perez will attend the Connecticut Puerto Rican Forum’s 4th Annual Starlight Gala. The forum--- that focuses on empowering tomorrow’s professionals through literacy, computer, and job training programs--- will hand out leadership awards. The presentation takes place at The Bond Ballroom, 338 Asylum Street in Downtown Hartford.
