AT FRIDAY EVENTS
NEWS ADVISORY FOR JUNE 15TH
10:45 a.m.--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez and Superintendent Dr. Steven Adamowski welcome members of “Teach For America” to Hartford. The highly respected organization will bring 25 top college graduates to the Capital City this fall as a way to continue to raise learning standards and expectations at Hartford Public Schools. The entire Hartford-bound TFA group will be in the city for a day filled with orientations, meetings, and official introductions. School assignments will be announced in August. The news conference will take place at the Gershon-Fox Room on the Main Street level of 960 Main in Downtown Hartford.
12:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez and First Lady Maria Perez will help Hartford celebrate Father’s Day. The Hispanic Senior Center’s El Dia De Los Padres will feature about 70 seniors who will sing songs and read poems. The tribute to fatherhood will take place at Pope Park Recreation Center, 30 Pope Park Drive in the City’s Frog Hollow neighborhood.
8:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will take part in the grand parade as part of the Amistad Foundation’s Juneteenth Celebration. The Mayor says the Amistad is a world ambassador for freedom and what better place to recognize that than in the City of Hope and Opportunity. Juneteenth marks the remembrance of when slaves learned of their freedom, which was two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The 2007 event is a black tie and afro-centric dress celebration that will be held at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art on Main Street in Downtown Hartford. The parade officially steps out at 9:00 p.m.
