7/07/07: A DAY OF FAMILY, FAITH, AND FIREWORKS IN HARTFORD

Saturday, July 7th
9:00 a.m.--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez rolls up his sleeves and helps neighbors at the Hartford Clean Up Day. This event is with award-winning student community activist Chanelle Adams. Keeping Hartford clean and green is important to residents and visitors alike. This clean-up day gets organized at Clark Elementary School, 75 Clark Street in the City’s Northeast neighborhood.
11:00 a.m.--- Mayor Perez talks about makes Hartford and America great. This is part of the Grace Seventh Day Adventist Church celebration of “America Day” that includes everything from worship to a fish fry. This Independence event will be held at the church, located at 870 Prospect Avenue in Hartford’s West End.
6:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez welcomes an expected 300,000 people to Riverfront Plaza for Riverfest 2007! Mayor Perez will welcome residents and visitors to one of the biggest festivals in Southern New England. Riverfront Plaza is located right along the Connecticut River (at Columbus Blvd) in Downtown Hartford.
7:30 p.m.--- The festivities continue at Charter Oak Landing for Fiesta del Rio. Mayor Perez will welcome families to this festival within a festival with a Latino flair. After introductions and readings, there will be a military flyover (approximately 8:00 p.m. Fireworks are slated to start at 9:45 p.m. You’ll be able to see the aerial display and the fireworks from both the Hartford and East Hartford sides of the Connecticut River). Sunday, July 8th
4:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will present the championship trophies at the first annual Latino Cup Tournament. Latino Cup 2007 takes place on July 7 and 8, with the semi final and championship matches on Sunday. This World Soccer League event takes place at Dillon Stadium in the Sheldon-Charter Oak neighborhood. For more information log on to www.theworldsoccerleague.com
