“THE HARTFORD EDUCATOR” FOCUSES ON

ACCOUNTABILITY AND INCREASED CREDIBILITY

 OF HARTFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS

---MEDIA RELEASE---

(November 7, 2006)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez, in both his capacity of Mayor and Chairman of the Board of Education, is proud of the second edition of “The Hartford Educator.” The 16-page publication focuses on the many positive strides being made in the Hartford Public School system.  A copy goes home with each of the City’s 24,000 students this week and Hartford residents can find it as an insert in Wednesday’s edition of the Hartford Courant.

Some of the major highlights of this issue include: encouraging youngsters to achieve at least a 4-year college degree, the sensational support of the new mandatory school uniform policy, Steven Adamowski, the new Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools, and a big round of applause for Hartford Magnet Middle--- the City’s third Blue Ribbon school.

Mayor Perez says, “It is important for families and faculty to know that we have some pretty special ‘doers and dreamers’ in our schools.  They can be inspired to do great things.  What’s also important is that everyone knows that accountability matters and results matter in our schools, but nothing matters more than our children.”

Interim Superintendent Jackie Jacoby adds, “I am confident that we are turning over a stronger school system to the new Superintendent, one that has been set on a new path for success.  By working together, we can all fulfill our shared dream--- the best possible education for our youngsters.”

“The Hartford Educator” is written in English and in Spanish.  Not only is a copy going home with every student, but also additional copies will be available at Hartford Public Schools, the Board of Education, and City Hall.  Again, City residents will also be able to find it as an insert in The Hartford Courant on the day after Election Day.
