---NEWS ADVISORY FOR AUGUST 4 AND 5---

 

Saturday, August 4th

 

9:30 a.m.---Education = Empowerment!  Mayor Eddie A. Perez officially kicks-off AFCAMP’s 3rd Annual Education Summit.  He will focus on the importance of raising educational standards and achievements to help close the urban-suburban educational gap.  The event will be held at SAND School, 1750 Main Street, in the City’s Clay Arsenal neighborhood.

 

Sunday, August 5th

 

11:00 a.m.--- A Journey Home.  Mayor Perez will greet the congregation of Faith Temple Church.  A special missionary worship service will focus on the needs of the homeless in Hartford and the region.  Over the past year, the Mayor’s Commission to End Chronic Homelessness studied the issue and developed a strategy.  The goal is to end chronic homelessness in our region by 2015.  Faith Temple Church is located at 993-1019 Broad Street in the City’s Frog Hollow neighborhood.

 

2:30 p.m.--- Celebrating youth!  Mayor Perez will meet and greet folks enjoying the West Indian Foundation Annual Summer Youth Day Celebration.  Cricket games will be featured.  All the fun takes place in Keney Park in Hartford’s Northeast neighborhood.  Please enter from the Windsor side of the park and go to fields one and two.
