HARTFORD INVESTING IN BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS

NO CITY BRIDGES IN POOR CONDITION

---NEWS RELEASE---

(August 7, 2007)--- In the wake of the Minneapolis tragedy, Mayor Eddie A. Perez has announced that plans are already underway to repair the 15 bridges the city either solely maintains for jointly maintains with the State.  Hartford’s bridges are considered safe and have only minimal work required.  Approximately $200,000 in corrective work is needed on these pieces of infrastructure that have been deemed good or fair.  The most recent inspections were completed by CONDOT in 2006 and then the City’s Department of Public Works followed up these inspections with further review.

Mayor Perez says, “Safety is of the utmost importance for our residents, employees, and visitors.  The City will utilize the Capital Improvement Program funds already in our budget to make the necessary improvements.”

$104,000 is already available and $500,000 has been earmarked for the 2009 CIP budget, so only a portion of that will be needed for further bridge inspection and repair.
