MAYOR PEREZ EMBRACES PLAN OF ACTION

FOR HARTFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS

---NEWS ADVISORY FOR EVENTS ON AUGUST 28^TH---

8:45 a.m.--- To help kick off the new school year, Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez welcomes Hartford Public School teachers and addresses them on the need for the school system to embrace the reform agenda.  The HPS Convocation Ceremony will take place in the Hartford Public High School Auditorium in the City’s Asylum Hill neighborhood.  Mayor Perez will also encourage teachers to continue to inspire youngsters and engage parents to be more involved in their child’s education.

4:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez brings this back to school enthusiasm to the Vine and Albany Annual Anti-Violence Block Party.  Councilwoman rJo Winch will accompany the Mayor at this community outing for Milner students and their families.  Once again, there will be an emphasis on the City’s educational action plan that raises standards and expectations for all Hartford students to help close the urban-suburban achievement gap.  Milner School is located at 104 Vine Street in the Capital City’s Upper Albany neighborhood.
