(September 19, 2006)--- Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez is pleased to announce that Eric L. Jackson has been appointed as the City’s new Chief Information Officer.  Mr. Jackson will be responsible for Hartford’s technology needs and infrastructure as well as the management and operation of the Metro Hartford Information Services Department.  One of his first objectives is to marry the two technology plans between the City and School System.  Another will be to provide support for Hartford’s new 311 non-emergency services and information system.

Eric Jackson comes to the City of Hartford after being the Chief Information and Security Officer at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.  He has an extensive background in web development, computer and printing support, technology training, and audio/visual resources.  Mr. Jackson will begin his new duties no later than October 3rd.  He replaces Mike Vasquenza, who recently retired.

This is a coming home of sorts for Mr. Jackson who is graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown and has strong family ties to the area.

Mr. Jackson says, “Mayor Perez believes Hartford can achieve results.  We can build communities through technology.  Thanks to virtual communications, people can live, work, play and collaborate on mutual interests.  Cities and technology go hand in hand.”

Mayor Perez says, “Eric Jackson has a proven technology track record.  He can turn business objectives into project solutions.  He comes to us with a strong strategic vision that will be perfectly in tune with our growing city.  We welcome his insight and his team spirit.”
