PROPERTY TAX REFORM TASK FORCE

SET TO HAVE FIRST MEETING

MAYOR PEREZ SEEKS LONG TERM SOLUTIONS TO ISSUE

---NEWS ADVISORY FOR THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH---

5:30 p.m.--- The Property Tax Reform Task Force will hold it’s first meeting in City Council Chambers.  Last week, Mayor Eddie A. Perez and members of the Court of Common Council took a major step forward in order to reform the City’s property tax issue.  The Mayor received nominations from business and community groups and put together this task force with Council’s approval.  This inclusive and varied group of residents, neighborhood and government leaders, as well as business and real estate professionals, will seek to protect and grow Hartford’s homeownership base, diversify the city’s revenue in lieu of property taxes, understand the impact of the property tax on business investment and reinvestment and also find the impact on renters.

This meeting is open to the public but will be an informational meeting only.  For those who cannot attend in person, the meeting will be carried live for Hartford residents on Government Cable Access Television, Channel 21.  Future meetings will have public comment and input.

Mayor Perez says, “Together, we must find ways to continue the positive momentum in regards to increasing homeownership and opening new businesses.  The recommendations from these dedicated individuals will then be submitted to the General Assembly for immediate State Tax reforms to be proposed in 2008 Legislative Session.”
