MAYOR PEREZ PROMOTES EDUCATION
ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH
---NEWS ADVISORY---
11:45 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will address the Connecticut State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Mayor Perez will discuss education as a Civil Rights issue of the 21st Century because there is a racial disparity in high school graduation rates, which limits future job opportunities. The Mayor’s panel discussion will be the first of five during this daylong event that takes place at the Legislative Office Building (LOB), Hearing Group Room 2C.
6:30 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will honor golf great Chi Chi Rodriguez for his dedication to higher education during a reception for the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation and CALAHE (Connecticut Association of Latinos in Higher Education). Mr. Rodriguez has continuously promoted higher education for inner city youth. CALAHE advocates full access, retention, and participation of Latinos and Latinas in the higher education process. The celebration takes place the Hotel Hilton in Downtown Hartford.
