MAYOR PEREZ PROMOTES EDUCATION THROUGH SPORTS, HEALTH CARE, AND CULTURAL EVENTS

---SCHEDULE ADVISORY FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH---

9:15 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will join U.S. Skate America Team members Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov at Batchelder Elementary School, 757 New Britain Avenue in the City’s Southwest neighborhood.  The Olympians will share their Hartford connection with students as well as a few skating pointers on stage.  This event will also help students learn about the different countries being represented when Skate America comes to the Hartford Civic Center October 26th-29th.  World-class skaters will compete and Hartford will be in the international sports spotlight.

11:00 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will greet the “Help is Here Express” national bus tour at La Plaza Del Mercado, 704 Park Street, in Hartford’s Frog Hollow neighborhood.  The goal is to help people who have trouble affording prescription medicines.  Since January, the bus has visited more than 500 cities and now Connecticut’s Capital City is on the map to raise awareness about patient assistance programs.  The “Help is Here Express” is part of a national effort to help more than 2.7 million patients, including about 20,000 here in Connecticut, find programs that will provide prescription medicines at a low cost.  This event is in line with mission of the Mayor’s Healthy Communities Initiative--- a medical home for Hartford’s uninsured and underinsured.

6:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will help mark the continuation of the Muslim tradition of Ramadan.  The event will take place at the Legislative Office building, 300 Capitol Avenue, in Downtown Hartford.  Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.  For more than a billion Muslims around the world, including about 8 million in North America, Ramadan is a “month of blessing” marked by prayer, fasting, and charity.
