SCHOOL SAFETY: INDIVIDUALS TO BE RECOGNIZED AT TONIGHT’S BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
---NEWS ADVISORY---
(October 3, 2006)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Education, will present a special citation to the individuals involved in safely diffusing last week’s pellet gun incident at Hartford Public High School.
The recognition will come tonight at the Board of Education meeting that starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Sarah J. Rawson Elementary School, 260 Holcomb Street in Hartford’s Blue Hills neighborhood. Hartford Police School Resource Officer Tyrone Boland, School Security Officers, Rufus Williams and Kenneth Kirkland, and Hartford Public High School Teacher Michael Halloran will be praised for their heroic efforts.
Mayor Perez says, “Thanks to their quick thinking, fast action, and follow-through of procedure, these individuals were able to handle this situation in a safe and effective manner. They put the safety of the students and staff first and they should be commended for their positive resolution of this incident. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Recent national events remind us to be vigilant and to make school safety a top priority.”
On September 27, 2006, two HPHS students were charged in an incident that began with an argument in the school cafeteria.
