Saturday, October 13th

7:30 a.m.--- UTC Greater Hartford Marathon:  Mayor Eddie A. Perez will help kick-off this premiere sports event.  About 15,000 people are expected to participate in this 14th annual event!  The opening ceremonies are on Elm Street, near Clinton Street (Bushnell Park), in Downtown Hartford.  For information on street closures: http://www.hartfordmarathon.com/Marathon/Community/StreetClosures.cfm

 

10:30 a.m.--- Independent School Fair:  Mayor Perez welcomes Hartford families and 18 of the 23 Independent Schools that participate in the Hartford Youth Scholars program.  This is the fourth annual event.  Information about educational opportunities will be made available at The Artists Collective, 1200 Albany Avenue in the City’s Upper Albany neighborhood.

 

12:00 p.m.--- Starbucks Grand Opening:  Mayor Perez will cut the ribbon and receive the ceremonial first cup of coffee at this business development and job opportunity event.  Community leaders will also be on hand as special citation is presented.  The new Starbucks is located at 682 Wethersfield Avenue (next to CVS) in the South End.

 

Sunday, October 14th

11:30 a.m.--- Peruvian Monument Dedicated:  Mayor Perez will honor and recognize the contributions that the Peruvian community has made to Hartford.  As many as 300 people are expected to attend this ribbon cutting ceremony that will take place at Colt Park at the Maseek Street entrance.

 

1:15 p.m.--- Center Church---First Church of Christ in Hartford--- celebrates 375 years:  Mayor Perez applauds the inclusiveness of this congregation.  Thomas Hooker was it’s first minister.  The Founder’s Day Brunch will take place at Bond Ballroom, 338 Asylum Street in Downtown Hartford.

 

4:30 p.m.--- Phillips Metropolitan C.M.E. Church Dedication:  Mayor Perez recognizes rebuilding and rejoicing at the dedication of this church, which is celebrating 75 years.  The Mayor will present a special proclamation.  The church is located at 2550 Main Street in the City’s Northeast neighborhood.
