Extension of Mark Twain Drive to the proposed University High School of Science and Engineering (State project 63-630)

(October 10, 2006)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez says the City of Hartford has begun the design of the Extension of Mark Twain Drive to the proposed University High School of Science and Engineering.  The City of Hartford will hold a Public Hearing for the proposed project involving the Extension of Mark Twain Drive on Wednesday October 18^th at 6 PM at the Annie Fisher School, Lecture Room, 280 Plainfield Street, Hartford Connecticut.

The improvements for the project include Extension of Mark Twain Drive from Plainfield Street north to the University of Hartford Magnet High School of Science and Engineering.  Additional improvements proposed for Mark Twain Drive between the Route 44 (Albany Avenue) intersection and Plainfield Street include traffic calming and resurfacing of the roadway.

The design engineering for the City proposed project is being funded through local and state funds, and it is expected that the construction will be funded under the High Priority Program – a Federal program that requires local matching funds.  Pursuant to 23 U.S.C 128 and 40 CFR Parts 1500-1508, this hearing will afford an opportunity for the public to receive information and comment on the City’s proposed project.  The comments received through this hearing process will allow the City and the State to jointly make decisions concerning the project.

A tentative schedule for construction of the project will be discussed at the public hearing.
