PUBLIC EVENTS FOR MAYOR PEREZ
FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH
---NEWS ADVISORY---
8:00 a.m.--- On your mark, get set, Go Hartford! Mayor Perez will cheer on the runners participating in the United Technologies Greater Hartford Marathon. This annual sports event features top athletes and highlights Hartford’s autumn scenery. The race starts at Bushnell Park (at Elm and Clinton Streets) in Downtown Hartford but extends through several neighborhoods. Please see “Road Maps” in the blue section of the main page on www.hartford.gov.
10:00a.m. --- Education = Empowerment! Mayor Perez meets with Hartford parents and students at the Independent School Fair, being held again this year at the Artists Collective, 1200 Albany Avenue, in Hartford’s Upper Albany neighborhood. This is an opportunity for Hartford residents to meet with Admissions Directors and/or representatives from 20 Connecticut Independent Schools. The Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation will also be available to answer questions about the overall admissions process. This fair is geared towards families of 8th, 9th, and 10th graders. For more information, you can also log on to www.hysf.org. Mayor Perez wants to provide Hartford families with more information and educational options so that more Hartford youngsters not only go off to college, but graduate, and then those skills can be re-invested back into our great city.
1:00 p.m.--- Hartford Means Business! Mayor Perez and Dr, Basil K. Bryan, the Consul General of Jamaica, will help celebrate the grand opening of the Caribbean Trade Council Office. The ribbon-cutting event will take place at the ACA Foods Plaza, 3155 Main Street, in the City’s Northeast neighborhood. This will be the administrative office space for the Trade Council. Mayor Perez is looking to increase economic and job growth opportunities between Hartford and the Caribbean through trade, business, and tourism.
1:30 p.m.--- Hartford celebrates history and homeownership! Mayor Perez will help dedicate the new deer sculpture as part of the Christian Activities Council and Deerfield Avenue Pride Block Party. This free event is open to the public and features music, games, and prizes, as well as a double-dutch competition. This is the culmination of the Upper Albany Revitalization Initiative, a long-term plan to improve the neighborhood through new and affordable housing. Deerfield Avenue is a century-old street, lined with large two-family homes. It is located between Albany Avenue and Greenfield Street in the Hartford’s Upper Albany neighborhood.
