MAYOR PEREZ TALKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF
EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AND IN COMMUNITY
---NEWS ADVISORY FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13TH---
9:00 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will take part in a regional panel discussion on accountability and system-wide improvements when it comes to urban education. The education forum is sponsored by the City of Providence and the Providence Public School Department and will take place at the Providence Biltmore Hotel. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy are just some of the other featured panelists who will also share their experiences that will have national implications on reform in urban school systems.
6:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will welcome and help honor the winners of the Leadership Greater Hartford Polaris Awards. The celebration of being engaged with young people and Hartford’s communities as a whole, will take place at the Artists Collective, 1200 Albany Avenue, in the City’s Upper Albany neighborhood. Those being honored include Donna Berman of the Charter Oak Cultural Center, Linda Bayer of Hartford 2000, Doc Hurley and his Scholarship Foundation, Jeanne Milstein, Office of the Child Advocate, and Ramon Rojano, Director of Health and Human Services for the City of Hartford.
