“HARTFORD HAWK” SEEN AS
POSITIVE SIGN FOR CITY
---NEWS RELEASE---
(October 23, 2006)--- When Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez looks out of his north window at City Hall, he oversees the beautiful Burr Mall that connects City Hall and the Wadsworth Atheneum. Today, this room with a view included a red-tailed hawk perched on the landing outside the second floor window.
According to legend, the symbol of the hawk means to “be observant of surroundings so that we won’t get distracted from our path by others.” Another definition says it signifies “the freshness each new day brings.”
Mayor Perez takes both of these meanings to heart. He says, “This Hartford Hawk is a reminder that our city is experiencing a renaissance and we need to keep moving in this positive direction.”
The attached picture was sent to the Connecticut Audubon Society, where experts confirmed that it is a young red-tailed hawk. This is their migrating season. Experts say that the best hawk flights almost always come after a cold front and northwesterly winds.
