HARTFORD JOINS NATIONAL ENERGY SAVING CAMPAIGN:
HELP REDUCE RISKS OF GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE
(Hartford)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez is pleased to announce that Hartford is joining the “Energy Star Change a Light, Change the World Campaign”--- a national call-to-action from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The goal is to encourage every individual to help change the world, one light — one energy-saving step — at a time.
This year, state and local governments like Hartford are playing a visible role by pledging to set goals and engage the community to take action. The City of Hartford has set a goal to get 500 people to take the pledge and to change at least one light at home. The City will receive online tracking tools that will make possible to track the progress against this goal and to demonstrate the difference that this will make to preserve our nation’s energy resources and reduce the risks of global warming.
Mayor Perez invites the residents of Hartford to join him in taking the pledge to reduce energy use and to substitute at least one light to one that is more energy efficient. Mayor Perez will be taking his pledge at 10:15 AM on Nov. 9th at the City Hall Atrium and he will also present a proclamation.
Beginning on November 1st, 2006, Energy Star products will be on display in the Atrium of City Hall, 550 Main Street in Downtown Hartford. On Thursday November 9th, 2006 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund will sponsor a sale of energy efficient bulbs (compact fluorescent lights) and other lighting items for competitive prices.
Please join us on November 9th to pledge and purchase energy efficient products. Help us turn Hartford into the energy efficient rising star.
Those who are unable to come to City Hall on November 9th, can sign the pledge online at http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=cal.showPledge or request a pledge form by calling Jennifer Cassidy at (860) 522-4888 ext: 6106. Jennifer can also be contacted if any additional information is needed. For more information on the Mayor’s role at the upcoming event, please contact Sarah Barr, Director of Communications, at (860) 522-4888 x6217.
