MAYOR PEREZ ANNOUNCES:
Reconstruction/Rehabilitation of Broad Street
From Park Street to Farmington Avenue (State project 63-618)
---NEWS RELEASE---
(November 20, 2006)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez announces that the City of Hartford has begun the design of the Reconstruction/Rehabilitation of Broad Street from Park Street to Farmington Avenue. The City, in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, will hold a second public information meeting pertaining to the project on Wednesday November 29, 2006 starting at 6:00 P.M. The meeting will be held at the Soromundi Room of the Hartford YWCA, 135 Broad Street, Hartford, CT. The purpose of the meeting is to inform interested parties about the project. It is important that the community participate in the meeting and provides feedback to us to assist in the project’s development.
The intent of this public informational meeting is to discuss the entire limits of this project. The project includes reconstruction of the portion of Broad Street from Park Street to Farmington Avenue, excluding the intersection with Farmington Avenue. A separate phase within these project limits will be the portion of Broad Street from Capitol Avenue to Farmington Avenue, which is expected to be constructed at a future date in conjunction with the proposed New Britain-Hartford Busway. This public information meeting will address all phases of the project at this time, including the portion from Capital Avenue to Farmington Avenue.
The project includes reconstruction and rehabilitation of pavement, new curbing, and various streetscape improvements including decorative lighting, new sidewalks, and crosswalk enhancements. Additionally, there will be radius improvements and curb realignments to improve turning movements at several intersections, including the intersection with Capitol Avenue.
Currently the project has funding of approximately $2.991 Million available for construction, with a maximum of 80% to be provided by federal sources that will be administered by the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation. The remaining funds will be provided by the State of Connecticut and the City of Hartford. In addition to the above, the City will be responsible for all costs associated with the design of the project.
Anyone interested in obtaining further information or providing input may do so by contacting John McGrane, Acting Director, 860-522-4888 x6525.
