MAYOR PEREZ NAMES CARLOS RIVERA

DIRECTOR OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

(November 26, 2007)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez is pleased to announce that Carlos Rivera has been named Health and Human Services Director for the City of Hartford.  His appointment is subject to confirmation at tonight’s City Council meeting.  It is also subject to the approval of the Commissioner of the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.

 

Mr. Rivera is being named as the permanent replacement for Dr. Ramon Rojano, who retired from the City.  Mr. Rivera has been serving as the Acting Director.  He was originally hired by the City of Hartford in October of 2004 to serve in the capacity of Deputy Director of Health and Human Services for the Capital City.

 

Mayor Perez says, “Carlos has more than 10 years of professional experience in these fields.  He brings an enormous amount of knowledge and perspective to this position and understands the needs and challenges that are particular to the wellness of Hartford’s diverse residents.  I am confident that he will continue the progress that he and the department have already made.”

 

Mr. Rivera will be responsible for overseeing the management and operations of the Health and Human Services Department, which includes planning, developing, managing, coordinating, and evaluating programs.  Mr. Rivera has a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Connecticut, a MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut.  He is also a licensed Clinical Social Worker.
