 CULTURE AND EDUCATION HIGHLIGHT MAYOR PEREZ’S SCHEDULE FOR WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2007

---- MEDIA ADVISORY ----

9:00 a.m. --- Mayor Eddie A. Perez will join U.S. Congressman John B. Larson in welcoming attendees to the North Hartford Small Business Fair.  Mayor Perez will speak about the importance of entrepreneurism in Hartford.  This fair will also provide small business owners with information about the resources that exist on the Federal, State, and local levels to help their businesses.  This event will take place at Vibz Uptown Banquet Hall, 3155 Main Street in the City’s Northeast neighborhood.

12:00 p.m. --- Mayor Perez will be on hand for the first ever Albanian flag raising ceremony at the City of Hartford! The Albanian–American community in Hartford and in other parts of the state have grown tremendously, playing an active role in the business community and political process.  This ceremony will take place in the Function Room, located in the second floor of City Hall, 550 Main Street, in Downtown Hartford. 

4:30 p.m. --- The Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA) will hold its annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Mayor Perez will be on hand to kick off the celebration.  This event will include refreshments, entertainment, and the ceremonial lighting of a tree at the corner of Park and Main Streets in Hartford’s South Green neighborhood.

6:00 p.m. --- Naylor School will hold its first National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony and Mayor Perez will offer congratulatory words to the 24 inductees.  These students were chosen because of their outstanding leadership, character and service to the community.  This event will take place at Naylor School, 639 Franklin Avenue in the South End.
