MAYOR PEREZ’S KWANZAA MESSAGE
---COMMUNITY RELEASE---
(December 21, 2006)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez wishes Hartford residents and city employees a Happy Kwanzaa. This is the African-American and Pan-African holiday that is recognized by millions of people around the world, including here in the Capital City. Kwanzaa starts December 26th and this celebration of family, community, and culture lasts seven days.
The international theme this year is “Kwanzaa and the Seven Principles: Creating a Shared Good in the World.” Those seven principles of Kwanzaa are:
Mayor Perez says, “These are principles that each of us can take to heart everyday. This holiday tradition serves as a reminder of what is important in life--- our family, community, and culture. This speaks to the very fabric of Hartford: our diversity is our strength.”
