Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez, along with City Councilperson Elizabeth Horton Sheff and former U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Kennelly, will be hosting a Social Security forum. This is to encourage Hartford residents to take part in the current debate on possibly reforming the Social Security system.
Mayor Perez says, “Social Security is a critical benefit for Hartford’s senior citizens who are on a fixed income. With possible major reforms heading our way in this year’s Congressional session, we want to do everything we can to protect the interests of our residents.”
Congresswoman Kennelly is now President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. She has been a leading national advocate on this issue. Also joining the panel will be Brenda Kelley, Connecticut State Director of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
Mayor Perez and Councilperson Horton Sheff encourage all people who are interested in learning more about Social Security reform to attend this forum. “Citizen participation in shaping any reform to this vital system will be key to the Democratic process,” stated Councilperson Horton Sheff.
