A brief history

In order to provide the City of Hartford with a modern, state-of-the-art parking facility, the Morgan Street Garage was completed on December 1st, 2001. Costing nearly $26 million, this garage covers two city blocks and comprises of 2,290 parking spaces and houses the Administrative Offices of the Hartford Parking Authority.

In 1998, the Connecticut General Assembly created the Capital City Economic Development Authority, better known as CCEDA. This quasi-public authority was responsible for overseeing the six projects, which are known as the "six pillars" of Hartford's economic redevelopment – one of which is the Morgan Street Garage. In May of 2000, the Hartford Parking Authority and the State of Connecticut entered into a purchase/sale agreement whereby the State purchased 500 parking spaces in the garage for $6.5 million that is used for Capital Community College. United Healthcare Services is also a major tenant of the garage with a non-exclusive right to 650 spaces.
