Hartford Fire Department

OUR MISSION

"The Hartford Fire Department is committed to preventing and minimizing the loss of life and property through delivery of the highest quality, effective and efficient emergency fire, rescue and emergency medical service, hazardous materials response, fire prevention and public education to the residents of and visitors to Hartford."

WHO ARE WE ?

      We are an aggressive, offensive attack firefighting department.  All firefighters are trained to use and have access to thermal imaging cameras, mobile data computers and are trained in emergency medical care.

            We are proud to have received a Class 1 ranking by the Insurance Services Organization – out of 33,000 fire departments, only 42 received this rating – and Hartford is one of them!

           We currently employ 325 full-time firefighters stationed at 17 different fire stations … covering 18 square miles of service, and consisting of 11 Engine Companies, 5 Ladder Companies and 1 Tactical Unit.

           The Tactical Unit has also been rated the Busiest Heavy Rescue Unit in the U.S.A. for 2 years in a row in a survey conducted by Firehouse Magazine (2003, 2004).

IS A CAREER IN FIREFIGHTING RIGHT FOR YOU ?

 If you are looking for a vital and challenging career, you’re on the right track.  Firefighting is demanding work, with terrific rewards.  Firefighters are America’s greatest living heroes.  They protect the lives and properties of their neighbors.  They perform daring rescues and extinguish raging infernos, but firefighters also protect people in many other ways.  Firefighters play an important role in education and public awareness of fire safety.

On any given day a fire department may be called upon for:

Airplane crashes; Animal rescues;
