Job
Fair Tips
At a job fair it is up to you to approach
the representatives! You must be ready to introduce yourself and describe your
job needs to employers.
Here are some helpful hints to keep in mind
when preparing for job fairs.
|
Do your homework |
Recruiters will ask
what you know about them. Be Prepared! |
|
Know what you
are looking for |
Recruiters will not
waste time with people who are unsure about the type of work they are
seeking. Have a specific job title in mind when speaking with employers. |
|
Bring extra
copies of your résumé |
Companies will ask
for a few copies of your résumé. |
|
Get the
recruiter’s business card |
This allows you to
address follow-up calls and letters to a specific person. |
|
Present yourself
in a professional manner |
Dress
professionally, extend a firm handshake, and maintain eye contact. Be
polite and pleasant. |
|
Approach
employers individually |
If you carpool with
a group of friends or bring children when applying for jobs or going on an
interview, be sure to introduce yourself alone. It is best to look for
work and go to interviews alone. |
|
Go early |
Arrive early and
give yourself at least one hour to look at all the employers present at
the fair. |
|
Talk to other
people looking for work |
Talk to other job
seekers at the fair. This is an opportunity to network. They may know of
an interesting position you can apply for. |
