Murder Arrest

On June 24, 2014, just after 9:00pm, Hartford Police Department Patrol Officers were dispatched to 154 Adams Street for a person shot. Responding officers located the victim, later identified as Jose Torres, 33 of Hartford. Torres, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound, was transported to the St. Francis Hospital and pronounced deceased a short time later. Initial investigation showed the shooting occurred during a cookout where numerous adults and children were present. Hartford Police Department- Major Crimes Division Detectives working homicide assumed the investigation.

Citizens provided verified information to detectives and intelligence was developed which lead to Tayshawn "Kanye" Simms, 02/21/91, of Hartford, being identified as the shooter. On September 23, 2014, homicide detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Simms. Tayshawn "Kanye" Simms was captured a short time later by members of the HPD North Conditions Team as well as the Hartford Police Intelligence Division. Simms was transported to the HPD Major Crimes Division, interviewed by homicide detectives, and booked.

Simms, having been arrested by HPD on numerous previous occasions, was charged with Murder and given a $2,000,000 bond.
