(January 25, 2015) In preparation for the inclement weather, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra has declared a snow emergency in the City of Hartford effective 12:00pm, Monday, January 26, 2015. A citywide parking ban will be in effect beginning Monday at 3:00pm through Wednesday, January 28 at 8:00pm.  Hartford Public Schools and all City employees except emergency personnel will be dismissed at 12:00pm. There will be no trash or recycling pick up on Tuesday, January 27 and Winterfest will be closed in Bushnell Park. The Emergency Operating Center (EOC) will be activated as of 3:00pm tomorrow to monitor the storm.  

“This is the first big snow storm of the season and accumulation is expected to be over 10 inches in Hartford,” said Mayor Segarra. “We’ve seen been through heavy storms before but it’s important to plan ahead and be prepared.” 

During a parking ban, all street parking is prohibited. Residents without access to off-street parking should move their vehicles to any Hartford Public School parking lot or to one of the following authorized parking areas before the start of the parking ban:

•       Morgan Street Garage

•       2 Holcomb Street Lot

•       Keney Park Entrance Lot—Ridgefield Street

•       KDA Center Lot—Naugatuck Street

•       Pope Park Center Lot—Park Terrace

•       Metzner Center Lot—Franklin Avenue

•       Colt Park Lot—Wawarme Avenue

•       Elizabeth Park Lots

•       All Hartford Schools Parking Lots         

Residents should remove their vehicles from the lots promptly following the end of the parking ban and contact the Hartford Police Department with questions at (860) 757-4000. The cost for retrieving a towed vehicle is $93.59. An additional $99.00 ticket will be issued which owners are responsible for paying before the answer date.

Anyone in need of shelter is urged to call 211. The following shelters will remain open for the duration of the storm:

•       South Park Inn: 75 Main St, (860) 724-0071
