Gun Arrest October 1, 2015

On October 1, 2015, at 1:26 p.m., Hartford Police Department Patrol Officers and South District Community Service Officers were addressing community complaints of trespassers and open street drug dealing in the rear parking lot of 582 Zion Street. While addressing those complaints, HPD officers were investigating an individual, later identified as Mario Santiago, 38, of Hartford, CT in the immediate area and observed a bulge alongside his waistband. Upon seeing the police officers, Santiago immediately ran into 582 Zion Street in flight. Investigating HPD officers entered the building and observed a firearm fall from Santiago's waistband as he ran into an apartment. Santiago was taken into custody inside of the apartment. Recovered was a .380 caliber Bersa handgun with magazine. The Hartford Shooting Task Force was notified of the incident.

Recovered:
.380 caliber Bersa handgun with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine (gun stolen from Bethany CT in 1995)

Arrested: Mario Santiago, 38, of Hartford, CT (Convicted Felon, 29 Previous Hartford Arrests)

Charges:
1. Trespass 3rd Degree
2. Interfering with Police
3. Carrying a Pistol without a Permit
4. Theft of a Firearm
5. Criminal possession of a Firearm
Bond set at $450,000
