Officer Thomas Knevet

Officer Knevet became a regular police officer on October 23, 1911.  He became the first officer of the Hartford Police Department to be killed in the line of duty, when he was struck by an automobile, on November 27, 1919. Knevet was recognized by the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. in 1994, for having the longest record of continuous service with a single law enforcement agency of any officer killed in the line of duty in the Unites States.

 Officer Jennings was appointed a patrolman on February 29, 1960. His life came to a tragic end when he was killed while trying to apprehend a criminal suspect on May 25, 1964.

 

 

Officer Harvey Young

Officer Young was appointed a patrolman on September 22, 1952. His life came to a tragic end when he was killed while taking a prisoner into custody on August 25, 1967.

Officer Francis Fenton

   Officer Fenton was appointed a patrolman July 1, 1951. His life came to a tragic end when he was killed while intervening with an armed man threatening a tavern owner on March 28, 1969.

Officer John Daley

Officer Daley was appointed a patrolman October 13, 1970. His life came to a tragic end when his revolver discharged at the scene of a police operation while taking cover from a man armed with a shotgun on July 29, 1977.

 

Detective Edward Cody

Detective Cody joined the Hartford Police Department on October 26, 1952. He was promoted to the rank of Detective on November 1, 1970. His life came to a tragic end during a hold-up of an armored truck on April 16, 1979.
 

Officer Thomas Toohey

Officer Toohey became a Hartford Police Officer on November 26, 1979.
His life came to a tragic end when he suffered from a heart attack while
partaking in an undercover investigation in the Frog Hollow neighborhood
of Hartford on May 15 1996.
