Officer Knevet became a regular police officer on
October 23, 1911. He became the first officer of the Hartford Police
Department to be killed in the line of duty when he was struck by an
automobile on November 27, 1919. In 1994 Officer Knevet was
recognized by the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.,
for having the longest record of continuous service with a single law
enforcement agency of any officer killed in the line of duty in the
United States.
