When should I call 9-1-1?

9-1-1 should be called to report a fire, save a life, or report an emergency.

9-1-1 should never be used for non-emergencies or to test your phone.  If you call
9-1-1 for service that is not considered an emergency you will either be told to call a police routine number (see listing here) or you will be transferred to the routine call operator.  Use of 9-1-1 for non-emergencies ties up not only the incoming phone line but the dispatcher who could be fielding an emergency call.
