NEWS RELEASE HARTFORD POLICE MAKE TWO MORE ARRESTS IN MARCH 2005 U-STOP CONVENIENCE STORE SHOOTOUT. (Hartford) - Hartford Police have arrested two brothers on charges in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on March 14, 2005 at the U-Stop Convenience Store on Barbour Street in Hartford. Marlin Carter, DOB 2/17/81, AKA "Goldie" and Trevon Carter, DOB 6/22/78, both of 252 Vine Street, Hartford, were arrested by Hartford Police Patrol officers at their home without incident on Friday evening, July 1, 2005, following the issuance of a wanted poster by detectives of the HPD's Major Crime Division just hours earlier. Marlin and Trevon Carter are believed by Police to be the individuals who were outside shooting into the store. Two individuals inside the store sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. A surveillance tape showing a third suspect, Jessie Howard, returning gun fire from inside the store, was released by Police in March following the incident. The Carters are charged with criminal use of a firearm, assault in the first degree of a victim over 60 (2 counts), criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a gun, and carrying a pistol without a permit. Their bond was set at $500,000 each. Jessie Howard, DOB 3/5/73, was arrested by Hartford Police on March 23, 2005 and charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. In commenting on the apprehension of the Carter brothers, HPD Deputy Chief Daryl K. Roberts stated, "The quick apprehension of these armed and dangerous individuals by HPD Patrol officers assigned to the Northeast Violence Reduction Initiative is a positive example of the kind of dedication members of the HPD have with respect to getting violent individuals off our streets and out of our neighborhoods."
