NEWS RELEASE HPD VICE AND NARCOTICS DIVISION ARREST 22 IN REVERSE STING OPERATION IN THE JUDSON STREET AREA. (Hartford) - On Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Detectives of the HPD's Vice and Narcotics Division conducted a Reverse Sting Operation in the Judson Street area, a location identified by residents as a "Hot Spot" of illegal drug activity. HPD Vice and Narcotics Detectives posed as drug dealers, arresting twenty-two people for attempting to purchase narcotics or a controlled substance at the location. One of the arrestees, Jason Holmes, made two attempts to escape custody. During Holmes' second attempt at escape he slammed his head into the rear window of the police van causing the window to shatter. Holmes, DOB 6/4/78, of No Certain Address (NCA) sustained a laceration to his head and was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injury. The Hartford Police Department's Evidentiary Services Division processing the scene. In commenting on the incident, Vice and Narcotics Commander Lieutenant Harold Even stated, "Whenever we are dealing with individuals involved with drugs there is always an unknown element of danger. Our Detectives are highly trained, highly skilled individuals, prepared to deal with the potential of violence and danger. Their quick response in this situation adverted further serious injury."
