NEWS RELEASE BABY REVIVED BY (Hartford) - On Saturday, July 9, 2005, at approximately 9:30 p.m., HPD Police Officer Dennis O'Connor and Probationary Officer John Michael O'Hare, assigned to a walking beat in the area of North Main Street as part of the Northeast Violence Reduction Initiative, were approached by a woman holding a baby in distress. Observing the baby unconscious, cyanotic and not breathing, Officer O'Connor quickly took the child and immediately began CPR while calling for assistance. Officer O'Connor continued CPR for approximately three (3) minutes until the child regained consciousness and began to breathe. Officer O'Connor continued to monitor the child's vital signs until an AMR ambulance arrived and transported the child to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center for treatment. It was later learned that the child had suffered a seizure as a result of a medical condition and Officer O'Connor's quick and immediate life saving response techniques credited with saving the child's life. Community and family members, including the child's grandmother Ms. Aracelis Licrago of East Hartford, expressed their appreciation to members of the Hartford Police Department and in particular the actions of Officer Dennis O'Connor. In commenting on the quick response and positive outcome of this incident, HPD Assistant Chief Andrew Rosenzweig said "this is a perfect example of how police officers walking a beat have a positive impact on a community. Officer O'Connor's actions exemplify neighborhood policing at its best. Our best wishes are with Ms. Licrago and her grandson." Contact: Nancy
