NEWS RELEASE HARTFORD POLICE CAPTURE SUSPECT IN EARLY MORNING CARJACKING. (Hartford) - Jose Sanchez, DOB 8/11/85, of 19 Kenneth Street, Hartford, was arrested by Hartford Police this morning in connection with an early morning car jacking that began at 693 Maple Avenue in Hartford. At approximately 8:30 a.m. Hartford Police responded to a report of a car jacking that began at 693 Maple Avenue in Hartford when a 32 year old female entered her vehicle to find the accused hiding in the rear, in possession of a knife. The accused then forced the victim to drive a short distance where she was ordered to leave the car. The victim, who was uninjured, fled the vehicle and, as the accused drove away, contacted Hartford Police. The victim was able to provide police with a description of the suspect and vehicle which was then immediately broadcast to all police. Shortly thereafter a HPD officer spotted the vehicle traveling on New Britain Avenue and turning onto Curtiss Street. A short pursuit followed and the operator jumped from the vehicle. Hartford Police established a perimeter and brought a canine team to the scene. Officers then received information that the suspect was hiding in a garage at 28 Curtiss Street. A check of that location revealed the suspect hiding in a second floor apartment where he was taken into custody. The victim positively identified the suspect who carjacked her vehicle. During their investigation officers recovered the victim's vehicle on Curtiss Street and located the knife believed to have been used in the carjacking. Sanchez, whose bond has been set at $1 million, is charged with carjacking, robbery in the first degree, kidnapping in the first degree, burglary in the third degree, evading responsibility, possessing a weapon in a motor vehicle, and assorted motor vehicle charges.
