Hartford Police Investigate Teen Homicide;
Make Arrest in Triple Stabbing.


(Hartford) - Detectives of the Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes Division arrested Carmela Ortiz, age 22, of 145 Ashley Street, Hartford.  Ortiz is charged with three counts of criminal attempt to commit murder and three counts of assault in the first degree, in connection with the stabbing of her three children, twins age 2 and a 7 month old baby, early this morning.  Additional charges of risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment are anticipated.  Ortiz, who has received medical evaluation, remains in custody on  $2.5 million bond.  Last medical reports have the children in critical condition but expected to survive their injuries.

In a separate incident on Friday, November 17, 2006 at approximately 8:00 p.m., a group of individuals were standing in front of 714 Garden Street when a vehicle drove by and shot numerous times into the crowd.  Three individuals were struck by gunfire.  Victim Tray Davis, DOB 2/10/90 of Bloomfield, was struck several times by gunfire.  Davis was transported to Hartford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Victim Montrel Gage DOB 2/5/85 of Hartford, was struck in the back by gunfire and is listed in stable condition.  The third victim, a juvenile from Hartford, was struck in the stomach and is listed in critical condition.  Both were transported by ambulance to Hartford Hospital where they remain under medical care. 

The Hartford Police are looking for a green two door Cadillac with tinted windows, or a green Ford Taurus, that was possibly involved in the incident.  The vehicle may be in the northern section of the city. 

The Hartford Police Major Crimes Division is investigating both incidents.  Anyone with information should contact Major Crimes Division Commander, Lieutenant Scott Sansom at 860-527-7300, extension 5230.
