Statement by Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts
on the arrest of Hartford Police Officer Roberto Sanchez.

(Hartford) - On Monday, September 11th an arrest warrant was issued by the Hartford State's Attorney for Hartford Police Officer Roberto Sanchez charging him with Patronizing a Prostitute from a Motor Vehicle.   Officer Sanchez turned himself into Police Headquarters at approximately 9:00 p.m. that evening and was formally charged and released on a Written Promise to Appear.

The arrest warrant was the culmination of an investigation directed by Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts and conducted by the Hartford Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division.

Officer Sanchez was suspended without pay pending the outcome of the charges with the State’s judicial system and completion of the Hartford Police Department’s Internal Affairs Investigation.

In commenting on Officer Sanchez’ arrest, Chief Daryl K. Roberts said, "It is unfortunate to see a police officer charged with such conduct, however, I would add that Officer Sanchez is cooperating fully with the investigation.  I do anticipate appropriate disciplinary action will be taken pending the outcome of our judicial system with respect to the case and completion of the Department’s Internal Affairs Investigation."
