MAIN STREET IN HARTFORD, BETWEEN ATHENAEUM SQUARE AND CENTRAL ROW CLOSED DUE TO FALLING SHEETS OF ICE FROM ROOF OF 750 MAIN STREET

(Hartford) -
Hartford Police have now closed both north and south lanes of Main Street, from Athenaeum Square to Central Row and Pearl Street and the Old State House, in downtown Hartford, due to safety concerns resulting from falling sheets of ice from the roof of 750 Main Street, Hartford.  Central Row, East, leading to the I-84 East and I-91 South remains closed.

The expansion of the fallout zone is a result of concerns by Hartford Police of the threat to public safety of ice falling from the fifteen story building of 750 Main Street and the high winds in the area.

Although there are no reported injuries to individuals or vehicles at this time, the Hartford Police Traffic Division asks motorists to take alternate routes, avoiding the downtown area, until further notice.
