CRIME TIP HOTLINE: 860-527-TIPS NEWS RELEASE HARTFORD POLICE CONTINUE INVESTIGATION INTO JULY13TH MOTOR VEHICLE FATALITIES
(Hartford) -
On July 13, 2007, at 12:43 p.m. Hartford Police, Fire and EMS were called
to the intersection of Airport Road and the Interstate 91 South on-ramp
for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. The preliminary
investigation revealed that a 1995 Saab 900 operated by Gordon Bywaters,
77 years old of Glastonbury, was traveling West on Airport
Road. Mr. Bywaters proceeded to make a left turn onto the Interstate 91
South on-ramp when his vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 2000
Mercedes S430 that was traveling East on Airport Road. The Mercedes was
operated by Belaal Suleiman, 27 years old of Windsor.
The front seat passenger of the Saab, Jacqueline Bywaters, 77 years old of Glastonbury, and the operator, Mr. Bywaters were transported to Hartford Hospital. Jacqueline Bywaters was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Gordon Bywaters was initially listed in critical condition, but was pronounced dead on the evening of July 25, 2007. The Harford Police Crime Scene Division assumed responsibility for the investigation which is on going.
