As a result of the sweep officers identified five truants and conducted four field interviews. Among five truants identified, one was referred to the Hartford Community Court. The four others were returned to school or their parents custody. The Hartford Police Department's Truancy Reduction Program is a collaboration with between Hartford Public Schools and the police, funded by a grant from The Travelers. In its second year, the program currently tracks approximately 200 students in ten schools. In commenting on the success of the Truancy Reduction Program, Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts said, "The Hartford Police Department is committed to doing everything it can to get and keep children in school. It is through the hard work and dedication of the detectives of the HPD Juvenile Investigative Division, our partners at the Hartford Public School System, area service providers, and parents - all of whom care very deeply about educating our children - that we will find success in this program."
