MAN ARRESTED PUBLIC INDECENCY CHARGE SECOND TIME IN TWO YEARS
 

(Hartford) - Detectives of the Hartford Police Department's Juvenile Investigative Division have charged Mario Callejas, DOB 3/1/1970, of 94 New Britain Avenue, Hartford, with public indecency, breach of peace second degree, and risk of injury to a minor in connection with a February 19th, 2008, incident that occurred at White Street and Grandview Terrace in Hartford.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on February 19th, patrol officers responded to the area of White Street and Grandview Terrace on a report of a male masturbating in his vehicle while looking at children.  A description of the suspect was obtained by police and an investigation was begun by HPD Juvenile Investigative Division (JID) Detective Victor Otero.  Working with the State of Connecticut Office of Adult Probation, the suspect, Mario Callejas, currently on probation in connection with a 2006 conviction for public indecency, was identified, located and voluntarily escorted to Hartford Police Headquarters where he gave a written confession to police detailing his inappropriate actions.

Callejas was booked at Hartford Police Headquarters and remains in custody on $100,000 bond pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court.

JID Supervisor Sergeant Matt Eisele said the quick turnaround in this investigation "was a direct result of the close cooperation between the State Office of Adult Probation our JID investigators.  With this quick arrest sexual predators should be on notice that the HPD, utilizing the resources of all its law enforcement partners, will respond quickly and decisively.  They will be pursued, caught and brought to justice."
