MAN COMMITS SUICIDE IN HPD DETENTION FACILITY

(Hartford) - On February 25th, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Hartford Police Detention facility personnel discovered a 46 year old Hartford man, who had been arrested earlier for disorderly conduct, had hung himself while in the detention facility.  The man, identified as Lewis Green of South Street, Hartford, was immediately given medical assistance and transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 6:58 p.m.

"Anytime an individual takes his life while in police custody is a tragedy and very disturbing  to us all",  said Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts, adding "I have directed the department's Internal Affairs Division to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident, however, at this time we have no evidence of foul play or a violation of administrative procedures."
