(Hartford) - On Monday, April 21, 2008 at 5:05 pm Hartford Police, Fire and E.M.S. were called to the area of 140 Franklin Ave. for a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, responding units observed a 2004 Chrysler Concord resting on its roof in the northbound lane of Franklin Ave. Operator, Tyrone Long, 21 years of age from Windsor, and front seat passenger, Joseph Philip, 22 years of age from Hartford, were transported to Hartford Hospital. Joseph Philip was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Hartford Hospital. Tyrone Long was released from the Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Hartford Police Crime Scene Division responded and assumed responsibly for investigation the crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Long was operating the 2004 Chrysler Concord northbound on Franklin Ave. At the intersection of Franklin Ave. and Benton St. Mr. Long lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line into the southbound lane of travel. The vehicle then struck four parked vehicles before rolling onto its roof and coming to rest in the northbound lane of Franklin Ave. The investigation revealed that the minimum speed of Mr. Long’s vehicle at the time he lost control was in excess of 60 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. Speed and reckless operation are both contributing factors in the crash. The investigation is on-going. -###- Contact: Nancy
