TRAFFIC AND PARKING ADVISORY

UPWARDS OF 300,000 ANTICIPATED
AT 28TH ANNUAL RIVERFEST

(Hartford) - In preparation for the enormous crowds anticipated at this year's 28th annual Riverfest and Independence Day celebration, scheduled for Saturday, July 5th, 2008, beginning at 4:00 p.m., the following traffic advisory is being issued by Hartford Police in order to ensure public safety and maintain proper traffic flow for the event.

Street Closure:  Reserve Road will be closed beginning at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 5th, 2008.  This is the only street closure.  Access will be provided to the Regional Farmer's Market.

Parking:  The Hartford Police Department encourages the public to utilize municipal and private garages and public and private surface parking lots.  Click here to view a map of municipal and private downtown parking garages and surface parking lots.

Shuttle:  Shuttle busses will run from the parking lot across from Dillon Stadium on Huyshope Avenue and travel a loop between Charter Oak Landing and the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza.  Busses begin running at 3:30 p.m.  Visit www.Riverfront.org for complete scheduled of events and shuttle information.

Handicapped Parking:

Grove Street, from Columbus Boulevard to Prospect Street
Kinsley Street, both sides from Market to Columbus Boulevard
Prospect Street, both sides, where placarded, from Central Row to Athenaeum Square
Central Row, both sides where placarded.

No Parking:  Parking meters will be bagged and no parking will be enforced on the following streets, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2008:

Columbus Boulevard, from Morgan to Arch Streets
State Street, North side from Market Street to Columbus Boulevard
Reserve Road, both sides, from Van Dyke to Maxim Road (including under the Bridge)
Wawarme Avenue, from Curcombe Street (east) to Reserve Road, both sides
Van Dyke Avenue, both sides from Wawarme Avenue to Masseek Street.

In commenting on preparations for the upcoming Independency Day celebration in the city, Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts said, "The Hartford Police Department shall provide a highly visible police presence to ensure public safety and the safe movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic throughout the city before, during and after the event.  We want everyone to experience a safe and joyous  Independence Day celebration."
