On July 8th, at approximately 11:15 p.m., in the vicinity of 485 Albany Avenue, two Hartford Police sergeants located the victim, a 34 year old white male, suffering from a serious stab wound to the lower portion of his stomach. The victim was transported to Saint Francis Hospital. A broadcast of the description of the assailant obtained from the victim was broadcast to all units. Within minutes the suspect, Andre Applewhite, was apprehended on Bedford Street by Hartford Police Patrol Officer Moody and Connecticut State Trooper Coit. The suspect was positively identified by the victim, placed under arrest, and remains in custody on $750,000 bond pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court. In commenting on the arrest, Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts stated, "This is a perfect example of how Hartford and their State Police partners, through a strong police presence and zero tolerance for violence, are making a difference on our streets and in our neighborhoods by the quick apprehension of those who commit violent acts."
