HARTFORD POLICE CONFIRM IDENTITY OF MANSFIELD STREET HOMICIDE VICTIM; SUSPECT APPREHENDED IN WEST VIRGINIA

(Hartford) - Detectives of the Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes Division have confirmed the identity of a Mansfield Street man found deceased in his apartment on July 20th, 2008, as Joseph Gilles, DOB 11/05/1955, of 67 Mansfield Street, Hartford. 

At approximately 12:25 p.m., on the 20th, HPD patrol officers and Major Crimes detectives responded to a report of a deceased person on the third floor at 67 Mansfield Street and began an immediate investigation.  On July 22nd the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide due to multiple stab wounds.  As a result of information obtained by detectives during the investigation, Tivon Reid, DOB 10/15/1987, was identified as a suspect in the case and was tracked to Vinton, Virginia.  Detectives of the HPD's Major Crimes Division contacted Vinton, Virginia Police who located Tivon Reid.  He was taken into custody on unrelated charges and awaits extradition to Connecticut to face charges in connection with the stabbing death of Joseph Gilles.
