MOTOR VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO
ARREST AND FIREARM RECOVERY.
(Hartford) -
At approximately 3:45 a.m.
this morning Hartford Police observed a vehicle run a red light at the
intersection of Albany Avenue and Vine Street. As an officer attempted
to make a motor vehicle stop, the vehicle fled and engaged police in a
pursuit which led to the vicinity of 508 Windsor Avenue, Hartford. At
that location the suspect fled his vehicle, engaged police in a foot
pursuit, attempted to steal a locked police cruiser and to carjack a tow
truck. After a brief struggle he was taken into custody. In a
subsequent search of the suspect's car officers recovered a silver revolver
on the front passenger seat and a ski mask in the back seat.
Arrested and charged with
multiple firearm, motor vehicle and carjacking charges is Lamar McCarthy,
AKA Lamont McCarthy, DOB 11/24/1981, of 131 Woodlawn Circle, East Hartford.
McCarthy remains in custody on a $600,000 bond pending arraignment in
Hartford Superior Court.
In commenting on McCarthy's
arrest, Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts said, "Our proactive law
enforcement efforts are paying off. Year to date we have seized 252
firearms and made 130 firearm related arrests. I want to make it clear
to those who may be carrying illegal firearms in the city that they are
being pursued and we will not let up in our efforts to rid the city of them
and their gun related violence."
