Hartford Police Arrest Two in Connection with an
Impersonating a Police Officer Incident

(Hartford) -  Two men have been arrested by Hartford Police in connection with an incident involving impersonating a police officer that occurred early this morning when the men attempted to pull over a vehicle unbeknownst to them to be driven by an off-duty Hartford police lieutenant.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. this morning, the lieutenant was traveling south on Franklin Avenue in the vicinity of South Street when a vehicle pulled up behind his vehicle, activated a siren and red and blue strobe lights, and through a public address system, ordered him to pull over.  A second vehicle pulled along the left side of the lieutenant's vehicle.  The lieutenant called for assistance and the operators of the vehicles, who were proceeding south on Franklin Avenue, were apprehended by Hartford police in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue and Hanmer Street. 

Arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer, improper use of flashing lights, and reckless driving was Israel Gomez, DOB 8/22/1988, of 586 Franklin Avenue.  Gomez was released on a written promise to appear with a November 4, 2008 Hartford Superior court date.

Also charged with reckless driving in connection with the incident was Esteban Cardona, DOB 9/10/1988, of 20 Victoria Road, Hartford.  Cardona was also released on a written promise to appear with a November 4, 2008 appearance date in Hartford Superior Court.
